Comparative і superlative схожі, але ми використовуємо їх у різних ситуаціях.
Ми порівнюємо два предмети, людей або тварин.
Ми обираємо одного №1 з цілої групи.
Головне питання: ти порівнюєш два чи обираєш одного з групи?
COMPARATIVE
Comparative потрібен, коли ми прямо порівнюємо один об'єкт з іншим.
The elephant is bigger than the dog.
The cheetah is faster than the horse.
The giraffe is taller than the zebra.
У comparative після форми bigger, taller, faster дуже часто бачимо than — «ніж».
SUPERLATIVE
Superlative потрібен, коли в нас є група і ми обираємо одного №1.
The elephant is the biggest.
The cheetah is the fastest.
The giraffe is the tallest.
У superlative ми кажемо the biggest, the fastest, the tallest.
SEE THE DIFFERENCE
-er + than → порівнюємо два.
the + -est → обираємо №1 з групи.
SPECIAL FORM
Слово good не перетворюється на “gooder” або “goodest”. Його форми треба запам'ятати.
This game is better than that game.
This is the best game.
good → better → the best
